Sammy Davis Jr. Story at Fleetwood-Jourdain Gets Several BTA Nominations

Artistic Director Tim Rhoze and Actor Sean Blake nominated by the Black Theatre Alliance.

The Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre and its artistic director, Tim Rhoze received three Black Theatre Alliance (BTA) award nominations for the play “Why Not Me? A Sammy Davis Jr. Story,” and actor Sean Blake one for his role as leading actor in the play.

Fleetwood-Jourdain was nominated for the 21st annual awards for The Negro Ensemble Company Award for Outstanding Stage Production, and Rhoze for The Oscar Brown Jr. Award for Best Direction of a Play and The Lorraine Hansberry Award for Best Writing of a Play.

Winners of the awards will be announced at the ceremony on Monday, October 19, beginning at 6 p.m., at Northeastern Illinois University’s Jacob Carruthers Center for Inner-City Studies, 700 East Oakwood Blvd., in Chicago.
