Schakowsky Part of House Floor Sit-in to Push For Gun Control

More than 70 members of Congress protested Wednesday to push for a vote on new gun control legislation.

U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky, was part of a group of Democratic legislators who staged a sit-in on the House floor Wednesday as part of a protest to force a vote on gun control legislation, the Chicago Tribune reports.

More than 70 Congressional members participated in the afternoon sit-in, which was led by Georgia Rep. John Lewis, the report stated. Duckworth was one of four representatives from the Chicago area to do so, the report added. The other members of Congress from the state included:

  • Rep. Robin Kelly, Matteson
  • Rep. Tammy Duckworth, Schaumburg
  • Rep. Danny Davis, Chicago

Duckworth is seeking a seat as a United States Senator, running as the Democratic nominee against incumbent Republican Mark Kirk.
