School Girls Approached by Man on Bike in Evanston

Morning incidents took place less than a mile from each other and both involved man on blue bicycle.

Two suspicious incidents involving a man on a blue bicycle approaching young girls are under investigation by the Evanston police.

On Tuesday about 9:50 a.m. a girl was walking to school in the vicinity of Sherman Avenue and Madison Street when she was approached by a man, described as African-American, 40 to 50 years old with a dark complexion, mustache and missing a tooth, telling her he wanted to take her to a movie, Evanston Now reports.

The man rode away after being told by another student walking ahead of the girl that she was her sister.

The next day around 9:10 a.m about a half-mile away near Austin Street and Elmwood Avenue, another girl walking to school was approached by a man in a blue bicycle with a similar description attempting to engage her in conversation.

The girl screamed and the man left.

Juvenile Detectives are continuing to investigate whether these incidents are related and are alerting the public to make their children aware as well as determine if anyone has seen anything. Police have also increased patrols around schools in the area.
