Sexual Abuse Charges For Evanston Man

The 36-year-old man has been accused of inappropriately touching at least three girls beginning last fall.

EVANSTON, IL — An Evanston man was arrested Friday and charged with sexual abuse after a lengthy investigation, police said.

Luis N. Martinez, 36, of the 1800 block of Lyons Street, was charged with three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of attempted aggravated criminal sexual abuse in connection with incidents that allegedly began in September 2016.

Police said Martinez inappropriately touched a 10-year-old, 12-year-old and 15-year-old girls who were close family friends. The incidents were first reported on April 1.

Evanston Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan credited the investigatory work done by the department's juvenile detectives and the courage of the alleged victims to come forward.

Martinez is currently being held at Cook County Jail with bail set at $25,000. His next court appearance has been scheduled for July 25 in Skokie.
