Shame on us for Being Un-American

As I watch the media interviewing the likes of Senator John McCain (a
former prisoner of war) and former Vice-President Dick Cheney (a 5-time draft dodger) spew their disdain for President Obama's release of
Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, I feel saddened that the release of an American POW has turned into a power play for the next election.  But why should this surprise me when our veterans of past wars are treated like second-class citizens, our VA hospitals have failen prey to bureaucratic hypocrisy and many of us have short memories when it comes to our precious freedom.

Fact:  To paraphrase the rules of war according to the Geneva Convention,"We must do everything in our power to bring our
sons and daughters held in captivity home regardless of their
military conduct."  In other words, it is not for us to judge
Sgt. Bergdahl's personal feelings and actions.  Our responsibility is to
get that soldier released and back to America.  And if that means an exchange of five or 500 Afghan prisoners for one American POW, so be it.

Think about this:  If my son or daughter was imprisoned by the Talaban and I thought I'd never see them again, I'd do everything in my power
to reach out to the enemy to ensure my child's safety.   This is what
Sgt. Bergdahl's father did and look at the repercussions.

Let's not get caught up in political muck and lose sight of who we are
as human beings.   Possibly John McCain, a military hero, has forgotten the horror of being a POW.    As for Dick Cheney's credibility, his past actions speak for themselves.   Bringing Sgt. Bergdahl home was a humane choice.
