Shooting At Evanston Park Puts Nearby High School On Lockdown

No injuries were reported, police said.

EVANSTON, IL — A shooting at a nearby park put Evanston Township High School under precautionary lockdown on Thursday, according to police.

Evanston police said they are investigating a shooting at Mason Park, which is located just a block from the high school campus. ETHS officials said police notified them about the incident at approximately 12:20 p.m.

The school notified parents that the lockdown was ordered out of an abundance of caution. Officials said there is no direct threat inside the school building.

During the soft lockdown, exterior doors are secured and normal activities continue inside.

"We remain in close communication with EPD and will share additional updates with students, families, and staff as they become available," ETHS officials said in a statement.

The public was asked to avoid the area while police continue to investigate.
