Spate of Drugged Driving Deaths Alarms U.S. Regulators
Alcohol and drug related fatal crashes

In 2015, 21% of the 31,166 fatal car crashes in the U.S. involved at least one driver who tested positive for drugs after the incident, a number that could be even higher since not all drivers involved in crashes are tested for drugs. Currently, all states punish drivers for blood-alcohol concentration at or above 0.08% but there is no standard level of impairment or field sobriety test for marijuana. A recent University of Iowa study however, has shown drivers with blood concentration of 13.1 ug/L of THC, the main active ingredient in marijuana, showed driving behaviors such as weaving similar to those with 0.08 BAC.
