ST. MARK'S OPENS DOORS TO COMMUNITY ON WEDNESDAY NIGHTS Waiting and Refreshment Wednesdays

Slow down this holiday season with Waiting and Refreshment Wednesdays

Beginning on Wednesday, November 11 and continuing each Wednesday until Christmas, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 1509 Ridge Avenue, Evanston will be opening its doors to the community from 7 to 9 p.m. for Waiting and Refreshment Wednesdays.

With Christmas decorations and gift items appearing at stores as early as Halloween (and sometimes sooner), it is easy for the months of November and December to become a time of busyness and doing. To counter this trend, St. Mark’s is inviting the community to participate in Waiting and Refreshment Wednesdays when the church will have a room set aside for crafting and non-electronic games, another space for those who would like a quiet place to read or do homework, and the church, with soft lighting and lit candles, will be available for those who would simply like to mediate or pray. The Rev. Debra Bullock, pastor at St. Mark’s says “the church has always been a countercultural movement and at this time of year, especially when the world around us has been singing Christmas carols since early November, we are invited to settle in to a period of waiting, prayer, patience and longing.” She went on to say that “it is important when the world around us says we must do more that we make more time to do less so that when we do get to our celebration of Christmas we come rested and prepared.”

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church is located at 1509 Ridge Avenue (at Grove Street) in central Evanston. There is no cost for this event and no registration is required. Simply come and be. For more information contact The Rev. Debra Bullock at rector@stmarksevanston.org or contact the church at 847-864-4806.
