Target Hiring 70 Employees In Evanston

Job fairs will be held next week to staff the company's new small-format store on Sherman Avenue.

EVANSTON, IL — Target is holding job fairs next week to fill 70 positions at its new Evanston location. The small-format store near the Northwestern University campus at 1616 Sherman Ave. is expected to open in March, according to a news release. Job fair events are being held Jan. 18-20 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the company's 2209 Howard St. store.

“We are building a talented team to serve the students and residents of Evanston," said Target's store team leader, Krysanna Bowery.

The new store is the 85th Target in the Chicago area, according to the company. Target said opening more, smaller sized stores near college campuses and in denser suburbs is a priority for the company.

"[T]his store in the heart of Evanston will will offer a customized shopping experience for the community,” Bowery said.

The Evanston Target location's opening follows new stores in Lakeview, Oak Park and on Dempster Street in Skokie.

According to the release, Target is raising its minimum hourly wage to $11 for all employees. It also has committed to increase the wage to $15 per hour by the end of 2020.

The company said the higher pay will allow it to "recruit and retain strong team members" and improve customer experience.
