Teen Charged in Armed Robbery of Northwestern Student

Police in Evanston arrested the 17-year-old boy after he was questioned for his role in similar incidents in Chicago.

EVANSTON, IL - A 17-year-old boy from Chicago has been charged in connection to the armed robbery of a Northwestern University student on Noyes Street earlier this month.

The boy was recently arrested by the Chicago Police Department for a series of similar robberies that occurred there, according to a statement from police in Evanston. He was later positively identified as one of the offenders in the Evanston incident, which involved multiple suspects on Oct. 7.

The victim of the Oct. 7 incident told police then he was approached by three people near Noyes and Sheridan Road and was forced to accompany the suspects to the nearest ATM and make a withdrawal of $400.

A similar robbery was reported earlier that night on a CTA Purple Line train near Noyes. That one involved a different victim from Northwestern. Nothing was taken in the Purple Line incident.

The boy has been charged with one count of felony armed robbery and one count of felony unlawful restraint.
