Thanksgiving Fire Displaces Evanston Family

No one was hurt in the Thursday morning blaze on Forest Avenue.

EVANSTON, IL — A fire displaced an Evanston family for Thanksgiving, but no one was hurt and their house was saved. Fire crews were called to the 1000 block of Forest Avenue for a report of a fire in a large single family residence Thursday at 10:10 a.m., according to the Evanston Fire Department.

Residents reported the fire and managed to safely get out of the home in time. According to Division Chief Paul Polep, the coordinated tactics and quick response time of Evanston firefights made the difference, extinguishing the fire and saving the home.

The first fire crews on the scene described thick smoke coming from the back of the house, and the alarm was soon upgraded to Code 4 to call in additional fire companies from nearby towns.
