3 Arrests Made In Clark Street Beach Robbery

The trio held up 3 other Evanston teens, telling one they had a gun before chasing and punching another, police said.

EVANSTON, IL – Three Evanston teens were arrested and charged with aggravated robbery Thursday night after allegedly attacking and threatening three younger teens at Clark Street Beach. Officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of Sheridan Road around 8:36 p.m. for a report of a robbery, police said. When they arrived they were met by three 16-year-old Evanston boys who told cops they had been on the beach when they were approached by three juveniles they didn't recognize.

Police were told one of the unidentified attackers grabbed one of the 16-year-olds, put him in a headlock and pushed an object he claimed was a handgun into his back, according to Evanston Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan. The boy in the headlock was told to hand over all his property and gave the robbers $10. Another of the 16-year-olds turned over a green, Sheffield brand pocket knife, police said.

The third boy tried to run away on foot, but he was chased and tackled by two of the offenders, who then proceeded to punch him several times in the torso without taking any property from him. All three robbers then fled the scene on bicycles, police were told. (Get Patch real-time email alerts for the latest news for Evanston — or your community. The suspects, a 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds from Evanston, were identified as the trio of robbers, police said. The pocket knife taken from one of the victims was recovered from one of the 17-year-old boys.

Cops took the three suspects to Evanston Police Department and petitioned them to court recommending aggravated robbery charges, according to Dugan.

Because they are juveniles, police did not release any further information.
