Trio Of October Drive-In Movie Screenings Planned In Evanston

An Evanston car dealership and a Chicago movie theater are hosting three more family-friendly drive-in movies with food from local eateries.

The Chicago-based Davis Theater's pop-up drive-in movie screen was erected for the first time in the parking lot of the Autobarn Evanston service center, 3147 Howard St., on Sept. 15 for a screening of "Goonies."

EVANSTON, IL — Three Friday night drive-in screenings of classic films are planned for the parking lot of an Evanston car dealership this month, organizers announced. The showings follow last month's successful deployment of the Davis Theater's pop-up projection screen outside the Autobarn service center on Howard Street.

Steven Spielberg's "Raiders of the Lost Ark" is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday. An optional pick-up dinner, beer and dessert is available from Smylie Brothers Brewing Co.

Ryan Coogler's "Black Panther" is set to be shown on Oct. 16. A screening of Tim Burton's "Beetlejuice" is scheduled to follow on Oct. 30. Dinner options from local restaurants for both showings have yet to be determined.

The family-friendly drive-in film series is organized by Evanston Loves Rotary to benefit for the Rotary Clubs of Evanston, which plans to distribute proceeds from the event to local nonprofit groups whose fundraising this year has been been hindered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tickets are $40 per vehicle of up to six occupants and available online for Friday's screening. The maximum capacity of the lot is 60 vehicles.
