Try Hockey For Free Day Returns to Robert Crown Center November 12

Evanston, Illinois – Evanston Hockey is proud to once again host a Try Hockey for Free event at its home rink, Robert Crown Center, 1701 Main Street, in Evanston, on Nov. 12, from 12:55-1:55 p.m. Local youth — boys and girls — between the ages of 4 and 9 are invited to come experience the exhilaration of youth hockey in a fun, safe environment.

No skating or hockey experience is necessary as members of the Evanston Hockey Girls’ high school and U14 teams and their coach, Hannah Bielawski, will be on hand to teach basic skills and drills, and facilitate a scrimmage match.

“Evanston Hockey is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and with the Blackhawks recently winning the Stanley Cup, we’ve seen a real uptick in interest and involvement at every level of play,” said Evanston Hockey Director Del Morris. “That enthusiasm means good things for our program, so we want to share the excitement of hockey in a way that is inviting to younger kids in the community.”

Participants will receive a swag bag with stickers and a participation certificate. Evanston Hockey encourages those who have access to equipment to please bring whatever equipment they have. Skates are available to borrow, as well as a limited amount of equipment. Everyone is asked to bring a loose-fitting pair of sweatpants or snowpants, any type of gloves or mittens and a sports helmet. Participants should arrive 45 minutes early to check in and get fitted for any equipment.

USA Hockey’s Try Hockey program, with the support of the National Hockey League and NHL member clubs, among others, is designed to provide youth hockey associations a national platform to introduce new kids to the sport. USA Hockey has close to 500 locations offering this unique opportunity to kids nationwide.
