U.S. News & World Report Names Presence Saint Francis Hospital Among Chicago’s Best Hospitals

Hospital Ranks 25th on U.S. News Chicago Metro List, 28th in Illinois

In the survey, which looked at approximately 5,000 U.S. hospitals, Presence Saint Francis is ranked high-performing in three specialties: geriatrics; nephrology and urology. The hospital ranks 25th in the Chicago metro area and 28th in Illinois.

“To be named one of the best hospitals in the Chicago area once again this year is an outstanding achievement,” said Jeff Murphy, chief executive officer of Presence Saint Francis Hospital. “To be recognized as high performing in three different specialties is a testament to our standing as the premier community hospital on Chicago’s north shore, known for excellence in quality of care and exceptional customer service.”

U.S. News evaluates hospitals in 16 adult medical specialties. In most specialties, it ranks the nation’s top 50 hospitals and recognizes other high-performing hospitals that provide care at nearly the same level of their nationally ranked peers. “A hospital that emerges from our analysis as one of the best has much to be proud of,” said Avery Comarow, U.S. Newshealth rankings editor. “Only about 15 percent of hospitals are recognized for their high performance as among their region’s best. Just three percent of all hospitals earn a ranking in any specialty.”

Hard numbers stand behind the rankings in most specialties—death rates, patient safety, procedure volume and other objective data. Responses to a national survey, in which physicians were asked to name hospitals they consider best in their specialty for the toughest cases, also were factored in.

The rankings have been published at http://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals and will appear in print in the U.S. News Best Hospitals 2014 guidebook, which will be available in bookstores and on newsstands August 27.
