Wind Forces Closure of Downtown Evanston Streets

The area around Sherman Plaza was off limits to traffic due to safety concerns.

UPDATE: 6:50 p.m. - All city wind operations have ceased. The area is back open to traffic and pedestrians.

EVANSTON, IL - Some streets in Downtown Evanston surrounding Sherman Plaza will be closed until the winds die down.

Sherman and Benson avenues are being closed between Church and Davis streets and Church and Davis are being closed between Sherman and Benson, according to a city memo.

Prior to the closure, some construction materials were blown off the roof at the Sherman Plaza building at 807 Davis St. and the concern is that more could be blown off before winds are expected to die down after 6 p.m.
