Work on Dempster Street Traffic Signals Expected To Last Through End of Year
Project to improve signals at four intersections to begin on Monday, July 6.

The City of Evanston and Illinois Department of Transportation will contract traffic signal improvements at four locations on Dempster Street over the next six months.
Outdated signals at Fowler Ave., Hartrey Ave., Evanston Plaza and Dodge Ave. will be replaced by modern and interconnected ones beginning on Monday, July 6 - according to a city news release.
“Modern traffic signals will provide improved traffic flow through the corridor and reduce City maintenance costs,” according to the release. “In addition to modernized traffic signals, improved pedestrian accommodations, including countdown indications and accessible pedestrian signals, will be installed at all four intersections, which will provide safer crossings for all pedestrians, especially those with visual impairments.”
