5 Mother McAuley Freshmen Awarded $2,500 in Scholarships through Archdiocese of Chicago

Each scholarship is renewable through senior year, if the students keep their grades up.

Mother McAuley is pleased to announce that the following freshmen students are the recipients of the newly-established Berens scholarship: Megan Broderick (Mount Greenwood), Jacqueline Folsom (Beverly), Sara Russell (Mount Greenwood), Christina Targia (Chicago) and Vianney Valadez (Chicago Ridge). Each student received a $2,500 scholarship, which is renewable through senior year, pending the student remains in good standing academically and behaviorally.

The scholarships were awarded by the Archdiocese of Chicago due to the generosity of Chicago attorney, Mark H. Berens, and his family foundation. Mr. Berens recognizes the importance of offering a quality Catholic high school education to families that want to see their children’s education advance well beyond their own. Eligible students must have a G.P.A. of a “C” average or better, currently receive financial aid and have at least one parent who did not complete a two- or four-year college program.

Chicago-area high schools were notified in August of the availability of this scholarship, and asked to submit names of students who met the selection criteria.

“Finding new resources and means to assist our families with tuition is a priority,” says Mary Klingenberger, president of Mother McAuley. “We are very grateful to the Chicago Archdiocese, and especially Mr. Berens for his generous spirit of giving and respect for Catholic education. This is a wonderful benefit and a blessing for our young women.”
