The ABC Countdown Clock is Ticking in School District 124
Evergreen Park Elementary refuses to let the school year end without sharing how their Southwest 5th grade boys won big back in November.
As the alphabet countdown marks the final days of the school year in Evergreen Park Elementary School District 124, it’s only natural to reminisce about some of the great accomplishments that have taken place this year. Specifically, in basketball, as in the Southwest Bulldog Basketball Championships that were won in November.
Yes, there’s an S on the end of Championships because the SW 5th grade teams won TWO championships this year. Coaches Jim Czerwinski and Dave Kummer led the first team to victory during the 5N Consolation Championship at Marist. The boys were initially down by 10 at the half, but fought hard for the come back to tie the game. With a mere 2.7 seconds left, Jimmy Czerwinski #19 shot the ball from his knees to make the game winning shot!
Sweet- way to go boys!
The players included Billy Buchanan, Jimmy Czerwinski, Eddie, Mickey Joyce, Tyler Kummer, Thomas Murray, Manny Sagaille, Ryan Serna, and Nolan Sexton.
The next day, Danny Bruno, Billy Buchanan, Jimmy Czerwinski, Grady Elwood, Colin Lynch, Tyler Kummer, Thomas Murray, and Nolan Smith took their shot at winning a Championship and remarkably, they too took home the title. Led again by coaches Czerwinski and Kummer, this tournament was hosted by Mt. Greenwood; 22 teams competed. The SW 5Th grade boys only endured one loss and won the Championship!
District 124 couldn’t have possibly let this year end without having shared this fascinating feat of victory. Congratulations Southwest 5th Grade Boys, you’re A-wesome B-asketball C-hampions!
