Advocate South Suburban Hospital Patient Care Tech earns Butterfly Award for exceptional service

The quarterly award is given to Certified Nursing Assistants & Techs that go out of their way to provide compassionate care to patients.

Lynette Frazier, a patient care tech and unit secretary at Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest, Ill. was recently honored with the Butterfly Award for Exceptional Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and Techs. The quarterly award is given to CNAs and techs that go out of their way to provide compassionate care to patients.

Frazier, from South Holland, Ill., was nominated by a coworker, who commended Frazier for working collaboratively with other departments and regularly stepping in to help with things that are above and beyond her assigned duties. In one instance, Frazier offered a patient a ride home so his elderly mother would not have to leave home to come get him. Later, when the patient was admitted overnight, Frazier followed his elderly mother home to ensure she arrived safely.

The awards ceremony was held during the hospital’s National Nurses Week celebration and was attended by nursing staff, family members, patients and hospital administrators.

“We are so grateful to have techs like Lynette. She regularly goes out of her way to help wherever help is needed and I’m not sure she realizes how big an impact she has on our patients,” said Sharon Otten, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, chief nursing executive and vice president of patient care services at Advocate South Suburban Hospital. “Associates like her help us maintain our reputation for exceptional patient care.”

The Butterfly Award was established by Advocate South Suburban Hospital in 2014 to honor the hard work and dedication of CNAs. Winners are nominated by patients, colleagues, or their managers and are honored at a public ceremony where they receive a commemorative certificate.
