Akirah Fort Breaks EPCHS Record In High Jump At State-Qualifying Meet
A senior leader on the Mustangs' girls track team topped a school record that had stood for 15 years.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL - Evergreen Park Community High School has a new school record holder in the girls High Jump. It’s senior Akirah Fort.
Fort was the High Jump sectional champion at the Kankakee Girls Track sectional earlier this month, clearing 5 feet, 2.25 inches (1.58 meters). The previous school record was 5 feet, 2 inches set by Anne Schnitzenbaumer in 2007.
“It was a great competition, and Akirah made pressure jump after pressure jump leading her to the win,” EPCHS Girls Track Head Coach Greg Geyer said.

Fort’s jump qualified her for the state competition, where she will also compete in the 4x200 M relay with teammates Carmela Woods, Gaby Flores and Morgan Wright.
In 2021, Fort was named the most valuable player on the team as a junior, qualifying for state in four events: High Jump, Triple Jump, 4x100 relay and 4X200 relay.

“She is a very versatile athlete, and she can handle the busy schedule of 4 events during a track meet,” Geyer said. “She does the little things to keep herself healthy so she can be at the top of her game."
“A solid high end student athlete, very coachable and an overall great leader to our team.”
Madison Morgan will also represent the Mustangs at state in the 300 M hurdles.
