Alsip Man Dies In Crash Fleeing Traffic Stop In Evergreen Park: COPS

An Evergreen Park officer tried to initiate a traffic stop when the driver took off at a high rate of speed, police said.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL — A 39-year-old Alsip man died early Tuesday morning when police said he took off at a high rate of speed fleeing a traffic stop, Evergreen Park police said. The driver allegedly crashed into another vehicle across the city line. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Around 2:30 a.m. Sept. 26, an Evergreen Park police officer saw a vehicle with only one headlight traveling eastbound on 87th Street near California Avenue. When the officer tried to pull over the vehicle near 87th Street and Western Avenue, the driver sped away and crashed into another car near Honore Street in Chicago.

The Chicago Police Department is investigating the crash. Police said the man was dead at the scene. The driver had a last known address in Alsip. His name is being withheld pending notification of his family by Chicago police. Evergreen Park police are also investigating the incident from when it began in the village.
