EVERGREEN PARK, IL—A 44-year-old man wanted in Texas for sexual assault of a child was picked up Tuesday in Evergreen Park by members of the Cook County Sheriff's Fugitive Apprehension Team and the U.S. Marshal's Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force.
The U.S. Marshal's Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Fugitive Task reached out to officers requesting help in locating Jason Osborne, who had an arrest warrant out of Harris County, Texas, for child sex assault. The Texas warrant was issued in 2019, but due to a clerical error when the warrant was entered, Osborne's name was not attached to it,authorities said.
Texas authorities got a tip that Osborne may be in the Chicago area following a 2015 Cook County conviction for possession of child pornography. Authorities said a DNA sample he submitted as part of his sex offender registration tied him to the Texas case.
Officers learned that Osborne may be living in the 3800 block of West 95th Street in Evergreen Park. On Wednesday, officers went to the address and took Osborne into custody at an apartment where he had been staying.
