EVERGREEN PARK, IL – The hills are alive with the sound of music when the Evergreen Park Recreation Department Candlelight Theatre program presents the "The Sound of Music–Youth Edition," for three performances Friday, Sept. 25 through Sunday, Sept. 27.
The recreation department is happy to finally offer this production, as this exact show had been planned and was four weeks into production in February 2020 before being canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Tony Award-winning musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein has been adapted by Tom Briggs and Timothy Allen McDonald into a one-act, one-hour libretto designed for and performed by elementary school and early high school students. The great songs are still there, in a story that bounces along quickly paced, while still bringing memories of the classic 1965 film, starring Julie Andrews and .
Performances take place on Friday, Sept. 25 at 7:30 pm; Saturday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.; and a closing matinee performance on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 3 p.m.
All performances take place in the Performance Hall of the Evergreen Park Senior Center, 9547 S. Homan Avenue in Evergreen Park.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students/seniors and can be purchased at the Hamilton B. Maher Community Center, 3450 W. 97th St., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. They can also be purchased online at EP Candlelight Theatre Sound of Music.
The cast of talented local youths includes Hayden Boeschel, Arthur, Emma and Alice Collins, Nadia Cruz, Ava and Kendall Hermes, Adelaide and Eleanor Gorny, Ben and Theo Hurley, Lorelei Keelan, Peter Kelly, Shane and Lydia Kral, Caroline and Monica Konieczny, Dottie Mason, Johanna Ryan, and Peyton Wilson.
