Author, educator and humanitarian Greg Mortenson speaks about promoting, supporting education in the Middle East at SXU

Chicago (Feb. 25, 2011) More than 1,400 attendees saw author, educator and humanitarian Greg Mortenson speak about the importance of promoting and supporting education in the Middle East on Feb. 24 at Saint Xavier University.

Mortenson participated in an exclusive classroom discussion with SXU students before delivering his lecture, "Promoting Peace through Education.”

Mortenson is co-author of "Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace…One School At A Time," co-founder of the Central Asia Institute, a non-profit organization with the mission to promote and support community-based education, especially for girls, in remote regions of northern Pakistan and Afghanistan, and founder of Pennies for Peace, an international service-learning program to empower communities through education in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Mortenson’s visit was coordinated by the Division of Student Affairs with financial support from the Student Activity Fund (SAF).
