Bonfire Ends in Vehicular Invasion Charges

Two 20-year-old men arrested after beating up and robbing a guest at a bonfire in Evergreen Park, prosecutors say.

Evergreen Park, IL, May 26, 2016 -- Prosecutors said a man was attacked in his car and robbed by two other men after leaving a bonfire in Evergreen Park.

Ilias Sullivan, 20, of Evergreen Park, and Ryan Schutt, also 20, of Oak Lawn, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on charges of vehicular invasion, robbery and criminal damage to property.

Sullivan and Schutt, along with the other man, were all at a bonfire in the 9600 block of South Mozart around 3 a.m. May 22. When the man went to leave, prosecutors said he was followed to his car by Sullivan and Schutt.

A third person is said to have kicked the man’s windshield, shattering the glass. The prosecutor said the man had visible injuries and bruises on the side of his face.

Several other people were also involved in the alleged attack, police said.

The man knew Sullivan, and identified Schutt in a show-up, the prosecutor said.

The assistant public defender told the judge that Sullivan is a graduate of Evergreen Park Community High School and has no prior criminal background.

Schutt has two prior misdemeanor charges for electronic harassment and criminal trespassing, the prosecutor said.

The judge set bail for Sullivan at $100,000; bail for Schutt was set at $200,000. Both are due back in court June 21 in Bridgeview.
