Brother Rice 'Slaw Fest' Remembers Late Coach

Brother Rice family fundraiser raises money for Bob Stevens Memorial Scholarship following annual scrimmage this Saturday, Aug. 22.

The Coach Bob Stevens Memorial “Slaw Fest” event gets under way immediately following the annual Maroon and Orange football scrimmage at Brother Rice High School this Saturday, Aug. 22.

Coach Stevens was the varsity offensive line football coach for Brother Rice, who passed away suddenly in 2014 at age 39. He was affectionately known to players, coaches and friends as “Slaw.”

Slaw Fest is a family event featuring food and drink, with music by Max Dunne and Friends along with a DJ provided by ASAP entertainment.

The Maroon and Orange freshman vs. sophomore scrimmage starts at 4 p.m., followed by the varsity team at 6 p.m. Slaw Fest immediately follows both games from 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday.

Tickets are $25 for adults, kids under 10 are free. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased in advance through Brother Rice by contacting Nancy Condreva at 773-429-4349.

If you can’t make the fest, donations can be made to the Bob Stevens Memorial Scholarship on the Brother Rice High School website. Please make a restricted gift and add Bob Stevens Memorial Fund in the comments section.

All proceeds from Slaw Fest will go toward the Bob Stevens Memorial Scholarship.
