Even though my classes provide a strong, professional foundation in sewing, tailoring, and garment construction, there is simply too much real-world knowledge—built over 50 years—to cover in a traditional class setting alone.
Most sewers struggle not because they lack effort, but because they’ve never been shown the correct professional methods. That’s where the difference is made.
To bridge that gap, I’ve created a series of Special 1-Day Professional Fashion Workshops, held 1–2 times per month at different college locations throughout the year and beyond.
These focused workshops are designed to go deeper—allowing you to correct mistakes, refine techniques, and gain the level of clarity that produces cleaner, better-fitting, more professional garments. With limited seating and concentrated instruction, you’ll learn what is often missed in longer class formats.
The real progress comes from combining both. 
Take the classes to build your foundation… and attend the workshops to accelerate your growth and sharpen your skills at a professional level.

Celebrate National Poetry Month with Illinois Poet Laureate Mark Turcotte. &nbsp;Named in July 2025 as the 6th Illinois Poet Laureate, writer Mark Turcotte (Turtle Mountain Band Anishinaabe) lived his early years on North Dakota’s Turtle Mountain Chippewa Reservation and in the migrant camps of the western US. He is author of several books, including The Feathered Heart and Exploding Chippewas.&nbsp; His work has appeared in many national and international literary journals and anthologies, including the new and first ever Norton Anthology of Native Nations Poetry. His poem, “Dear New Blood,” was recently featured on the poetry podcast, Poetry Unbound. He lives in Chicago, and since 2009, has been Senior Lecturer and Distinguished-Writer-In-Residence in the English Dept at DePaul University in Chicago.

Kilpatrick Ave., Oak Lawn.

Special education staff will discuss the district’s plans for providing special education services to students with disabilities who attend private schools or home schools within District 218 during the 2026-2027 school year.&nbsp; Any parent of a homeschooled student who has been or may be identified with a disability and lives in District 218 is encouraged to attend.
