Candlelight Vigil Planned to Unite Neighbors in Fight against Hate Crimes
The vigil will be held Friday, Sept. 26 at 110th Street and Hermosa Avenue.

Area residents are coming together to support each other after several recent shows of hate and discrimination in Morgan Park.
A community candlelight vigil is planned for Friday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m., at 110th Street and Hermosa Avenue, in response to racial and derogatory graffiti left on the property of six Morgan Park families. The families found racial slurs splashed across garages, cars, and a home over the weekend in the 10000 and 11000 blocks of Esmond, Hermosa and Prospect streets in what is a predominantly black neighborhood.
The vigil will include tips on protecting homes and families. Attending will be the victims of the hate crimes, Ald. Matt O’Shea, the Civiv Association of Morgan Park, community ministers and organizations, and others. Residents are encouraged to bring flashlights and candles.
