Carson's Stores Begin Going-Out-Of-Business Sales

MILWAUKEE, WI -- The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. will begin going-out-of-business sales April 20 at its soon-to-be-shuttered Carson’s stores. The company has four Carson’s stores in the south suburbs, including Evergreen Park, Chicago Ridge, Orland Park and the Ford City Shopping Center in Chicago. The liquidation sales are expected to last 10 to 12 weeks.

Bon-Ton currently has 250 stores, 38 of which are already in liquidation from previously announced store closures. The company announced earlier this week that it would be shutting down its brick and mortar stores and e-commerce websites under the Bon-Ton, Bergner’s, Boston Store, Carson’s, Elder-Beerman, Herberger’s and Younkers nameplates.

One of the stores slated to close is a prototype Carson’s store that opened 2016 in the rebooted Evergreen Plaza development. Brick-and-mortar stores have taken a hit from online retailers as well as discount and specialty stores, as the once showy department stores like Carson’s shut down across the country.

Other Illinois locations including Naperville, Aurora and Joliet are slated to close.

On April 18, 2018, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware approved an agreement between the Company and a joint venture composed of the holders of the Company’s 8.0% Second Lien Secured Notes due 2021 and Great American Group, LLC and Tiger Capital Group, LLC governing the liquidation of the inventory and certain other assets of the Company.
