Central Middle School Students Send Positive Message About Power of Words: Video

Central Middle School students hope country star Eric Church will see their video set to his song, "Kill A Word," and visit their school.

Central Middle School students are hoping that country star Eric Church will see the video they put to the words of his song “Kill A Word” and visit their school. Students acted out scenes about the power and importance of word, and wanted to kill words with negative meanings, such as “hate.”

The students use the song to promote a positive social climate at their school. The lyrics of “Kill A Word” send a positive message, reminding people to be careful about the words they choose:

“Cause you can't unhear, you can't unsay
But if it were up to me to change
I'd turn "lies" and "hate" to "love" and "truth"
If I could only kill a word
Yeah, if I could only kill a word.”

“The students eagerly jumped in to help the vision come to life,” D124 communications director Claudia Parker said. “It's such a great song, and the students make the lyrics come to life with scenarios that are often prevalent in adolescent years. We feel this video provides a creative and responsible way to manage tough situations when they arise. We made the video public so that students outside of our school district can benefit from the positive message the video portrays.”
