Convicted Felon Hocks Popcorn Chicken, Yankee Candles: Police

Prosecutor said Chicago man has ten prior felony convictions for retail theft.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL -- A Chicago man was arrested after he walked out of a store with stolen merchandise, prosecutors said. Anthony Donaldson, 54, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice. Donaldson has ten prior felony convictions.

According to the charges, loss prevention officers at Meijer’s in Evergreen Park on Dec. 21 putting store merchandise into a gym bag. Donaldson walked out of the store where he was stopped by loss prevention officers. The prosecutor said police found popcorn chicken, Yankee candles, a utility knife and drill bit in Donaldson’s gym bag. Donaldson has ten prior felony convictions, mostly for retail theft. In addition, he has 37 missed court appearances, the prosecutor said.

The assistant public defender told the judge that Donaldson can’t find work because he is an ex-offender. Bail was set at $30,000. Donaldson’s next court hearing is Jan. 10 in Bridgeview.
