D124 Board Issues Statement On Decision To Delay Principal Vote

Evergreen Park ESD 124 asks for community's patience and let due process take its course as it considers withdrawing offer to new principal.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL -- In the wake of Wednesday’s meeting, the Evergreen Park ESD 124 Board of Education has issued a statement regarding the board’s decision to delay action on voting to rescind its offer to Dr. Matthew Eriksen, incoming principal of Central Middle School. The board held a special meeting after allegations of misconduct came to light at Eriksen’s former school in Highland Park.

District 124 takes the safety and well-being of all students, teachers, and staff, as well as real or implied threats to that safety, seriously.
It is generally understood that neither the District Administration nor the Board should comment on ongoing personnel matters. The District must also adhere to concepts of "due process" as they may apply in a given case. “Due process” safeguards the rights of employees and serves to assist the Administration and the Board to make the best decision based on accurate information which is presented in an appropriate manner. In an employment context, for example, "due process" includes both adequate notice to the employee and an opportunity to respond. Appropriate steps must be followed before the Board makes a decision.
It may appear at times that following due process serves to delay. It is at those times that the Board and the District Administration most appreciate the patience and appropriate support of the community.
