EVERGREEN PARK, IL – Evergreen Park Community High School District 231 Superintendent Thomas O’Malley was among the newest members inducted into the Moraine Valley Community College Hall of Fame earlier this month.

O’Malley, EPCHS’ superintendent since 2017, has worked in high school education for 32 years. He has held other administrative positions at Bremen Township High School District 228, and, before that, was a teacher and coach at Leo High School in Chicago and Hillcrest High School in Country Club Hills.

“I am humbled and honored to receive this recognition, and I truly credit this award to the many great teachers, coaches, mentors, especially my parents and my wife, that have played a major role in my life,” O’Malley said.

O’Malley earned his associate degree in applied science degree in business administration from Moraine Valley in 1987. Since then, he earned a bachelor’s degree in business education from Eastern Illinois University, a master’s in education from Chicago State University, a master’s in education administration and a Chief School Business Officials Certification, both from Governors State University. He’s currently completing his dissertation towards his doctorate in administrative leadership from Aurora University.

As EPCHS’ superintendent, O’Malley oversees academic progress, curriculum, personnel and the financial services for the school district. He also serves as the chief negotiator for the Board of Education and the CEO of the EPCHS Sports Complex.

He has served as president for the South Suburban Conference, chairman of the South Suburban High School Business Officials, and member of the executive board for the AERO Special Education Cooperative.

O’Malley’s volunteer service includes serving on the Evergreen Park Chamber of Commerce, working with Special Olympics Illinois, organizing an annual toy drive for Comer Children’s Hospital and coaching basketball at Christ the King School in Chicago’s Beverly neighborhood.
Inducted into the MVCC Hall-of-Fame along with O’Malley on March 7 were Jim Craver, Dr. Walter Fronczek and Marjorie Owens-Klotz.

“We were thrilled to welcome these new inductees and honor their professional and personal achievements,” said Patti Mehallick, director of alumni and annual programs for the Moraine Valley Foundation.

“They join a distinguished group of individuals in our Alumni Hall of Fame, who collectively are a snapshot of thousands of students who attended Moraine Valley and are leading happy and successful lives.”
