Donn 'The Pope' Pall's Old EPCHS Mustang Number 20 Retired In Ceremony

EPCHS baseball standout and former White Sox pitcher Donn Pall's number retired Monday in a ceremony at Tony Vacco Field.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL — Another number was hung on the outfield wall at Evergreen Park Community High School’s Tony Vacco Field with the retirement of ex-White Sox reliever Donn Pall’s old Mustang baseball jersey number 20.

Graduating in 1980, Pall was a standout ball player when he played varsity baseball for EPCHS. He had a successful Big 10 collegiate career playing for University of Illinois.

Affectionately known as “The Pope,” Pall made his Major League debut August 1, 1988 against the Oakland A’s and played for the South Siders until 1993. Pall spent 11 seasons in Major League Baseball, pitching for the White Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs and Florida Marlins. He was a member of the 1997 World Series championship Marlins team.

Pall was joined Monday by his wife, Katie, and parents Irene and Gene, who have been married for 65 years.
