EP Hall Of Famer Returns To Alma Mater For A Day To Direct Choir
Stacy Cunningham led the current Evergreen Park choir students as their director during the South Suburban Conference Choir Festival.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL - An Evergreen Park Community High School alum and hall-of-famer returned to her alma mater earlier this week to direct the student choir as part of the South Suburban Conference’s Choir Festival.
Stacy Cunningham, who has been the director of choirs at the Leydon High School District 212 in Franklin Park for several years, served as the clinician for current EPCHS choir students on Tuesday. Cunningham is a 1997 EPCHS and was recently inducted into the school’s Hall-of-Fame.
“I’ve seen her work, and she’s extremely knowledgeable and passionate about what she does,” Amy Kazin, EPCHS’ activities director and choir director, said, adding that she chose Cunningham as the guest clinician due to both her success in the field and alum status.

Cunningham’s list of career accomplishments includes winning the Mary Hoffman Award for Excellence in Education in 2019.
“She was the best fit,” Kazin said. “She’s awesome.”

The South Suburban Conference paid for Cunningham’s visit to EPCHS, as the Choir Festival is still being held separately at the participating schools due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Normally, choir students at SSC schools will gather for a one-day event at one of the schools in the conference.
Kazin said Cunningham was a big help in helping the 55 or so choir students prepare for their IHSA performance a week from now.
“She’s helping us fine tune these pieces,” Kazin said. “It’s good for the kids to have another voice in their head and provide a new set of eyes and ears.”
