EPCHS Celebrates Class of 2020 With Drive-Thru Commencement

EVERGREEN PARK, IL — Seniors will have the chance to walk across the stage while their name is read during a drive-thru commencement ceremony this Thursday, May 28, bringing an unprecedented end to their time at Evergreen Park Community High School.

Graduates will wear their caps and gowns and be seated in the front passenger seat of their family vehicle. After driving through the parking lot off Kedzie Avenue drive behind the school to Circle Drive, where seniors will be able to exit their car and walk across the stage while their name is read to pick up their yearbook and pause long enough for a quick photo. There is also a surprise in store for the graduates.

EPCHS administrators and faculty have been honoring the Class of 2020 who will not be able to participate in a traditional commencement ceremony due the pandemic. Seniors woke up to find signs in their yards. The school’s has also been highlighting the future plans of seniors on EPCHS social media. A virtual commencement ceremony where seniors formally matriculate will be held and shared on social media beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 3.

“We are very excited and happy to recognize our Class of 2020 in these ways,” the school said in a written statement. “While they are not all traditional, we hope our seniors and their families find them celebratory and memorable ... Once a Mustang, always and Mustang! They will be missed.”
