EPCHS Concert Band Places 1st Overall at Midwest Music Festival

Band students were even more committed this year after deciding to dedicate their performance to the memory of CMS student Alan Reyes.

The EPCHS Concert Band recently placed 1st overall at the Midwest Music Festival at Lemont High School! The event attracted more than 30 high school bands from the Chicagoland area and drew more than 300 spectators. Competing bands were placed into one of three divisions, determined by the level of music the band performs. Each band performed within a 30-minute time allotment and judges scored the bands on tone quality, intonation, technique, balance, interpretation and musical effect.

Band Director Ken Kazin said, "EPCHS Band students were more than prepared for this event, however, they were even more committed this year after deciding to dedicate their performance to the memory of Central Middle School student Alan Reyes." EPCHS students came to Mr. Kazin and said they would like the dedication because Alan was a trombone player, he was preparing to participate in a solo ensemble to be held at Central Middle School, and his dream was to become a music director.

We are proud of the EPCHS Concert Band for their talent and their compassion.
