EPCHS Makes RMD Pop Tab Collection a Year-Long Process
They are asking the community to participate by saving tabs from soda pop, energy drinks, soup cans, or anything with a metallic tab.

Evergreen Park Community High School Student Ambassador Brooke Scanlon and the EPCHS Ronald McDonald House (RMD) Student Board Representative Taylor Hoefler recently met with Principal Sanderson to discuss the “Pop for Ronald McDonald House Charities” pop tab collection and competition. While meeting the three decided to make the collection a year-long process, hoping to incorporate it into the culture of the school.
Brooke and Taylor also solicited the help of Building and Construction teacher Dave Ridenour and the Industrial Technology Club. The Industrial Technology Club embraced the challenge by designing and constructing collection boxes that are now mounted on the garbage cans and recycle bins throughout the school. Mr. Sanderson stated, “Brooke and Taylor are very motivated for this collection project to be successful. By also getting support from the Industrial Technology Club, we are able to showcase their skills and have more student buy-in.”
The Ronald McDonald House website has a page on pop tab charities. It states, “It takes approximately 1,128 pop tabs to equal one pound. We typically receive between $0.40 to $0.50 per pound of pop tabs. This program brings in an average of $6,000 each year.” RMD accepts tabs from soda pop, energy drinks, soup cans or anything with a metallic tab.

EPCHS invites community members to drop off their aluminum can tabs to the school during regular school hours. EPCHS came in 2nd Place last year at the RMD competition and this year, they are hoping to reach their goal of finishing in 1st Place.
