EPCHS Sisters Surprise Teachers with a Special Gift

Natalie and Clair Gavin were recently sitting around the dinner table talking about the first week of school.

Evergreen Park Community High School sisters Natalie (Senior) and Clair (Junior) Gavin were recently sitting around the dinner table talking about the first week of school for this 2020-21 school year. Their conversation included the transition students have made with remote learning and technology. Then they also talked about their teachers transitioning to new technology and remote learning as well as caring for all their students. The girls said it was a lot of work for their teachers so they decided to do something nice for them.

To show their appreciation, Natalie and Clair decided to send them a sweet treat from Nothing Bundt Cakes. The girls’ teachers including Mr. Brahm (science), Mr. English (math & social studies), Mr. Gallagher (social studies), Ms. Granata (English), Mr. Kovacs (social studies), Ms. McInnes (world language), Ms. Safranek (art) and Mr. Zimmerman (P.E.), were so surprised! They sent thank you emails to Natalie and Clair and some had this to say about the surprise.

“It was such a lovely surprise,” said Mrs. Granata.

Mr. Gallagher said, “It felt absolutely amazing to have a student and her family be that kind to me and the rest of her teachers. I was blown away. I am lucky to be a teacher in this great community. Natalie Gavin and her family went above and beyond kindness and thoughtfulness with that gesture.”

“Usually teachers get gifts at the end of the semester or the end of the school year, but to receive one at the first week of school, especially this year, made it really special,” said Mr. Kovacs. “We have been working hard to make sure students have the best learning experience we can provide, and their gesture is just another example of how great EPCHS is and how much the community supports us.”

Mr. English said, “It was a very nice and unexpected surprise, and definitely helped end the week on a high note. I enjoyed having Natalie in class last year and am looking forward to having Clair in class this year.”
