EVERGREEN PARK, IL -- Sparky the Fire Dog, car seat information and a fire extinguisher demonstration are featured at the Evergreen Park Fire Department's Open House. Residents are invited to visit the fire station at 9000 S. Kedzie Ave. from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5. The open house kicks off National Fire Prevention Week, the theme of which is “Plan and Practice Your Escape.”

The fire department has cooked up all sorts of fun activities for the kiddos and their parents. Kids can touch a truck and slide down a fireman's pole, while their parents get information on planning and practicing an escape plan at home. Evergreen Park's bravest will also show parents how to safely install a child's car seat and the correct way of using a fire extinguisher. And, there will be popcorn. The open house is FREE so bring your fire engine lovin' kids and grandkids to the Evergreen Park fire station.
