Evergreen Park Hosts Textile Recycling Drive This Sunday
Drop off old towels, linens, rugs, clothing or anything made of cloth at Evergreen Park's textile recycling drive April 28 for Earth Day.
EVERGREEN PARK, IL -- If you have old towels, linens, clothing, rugs or anything made of cloth, the Village of Evergreen Park will be hosting an textile recycling drive for Earth Day Sunday, April 28. The collection will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at Yukich Field at 89th Street and Kedzie Avenue and is open to all area residents.
Textile drives are the latest trend in recycling events. Clothing and household textiles currently make-up 4.6 percent of the waste stream, according to Chicago Textile Recycling. Extending the life cycle of textiles can reduce energy and water consumption through the distribution of reclaimed wipers or recycled rags vs. manufactured. Old garments, towels and institutional linens can be transformed to wiping cloths needed for industrial use, supporting a cleaner, healthier environment. Gently worn clothing can also be reused by being sold wholesale or exported to developing countries.
