EVERGREEN PARK, IL — The Village of Evergreen Park is embarking on its fourth year of collecting personal care items for Edward J. Hines VA Hospital to be distributed to homeless veterans. The collection is currently underway at Dist. 124 schools, Most Holy Redeemer, St. John Fisher and Brother Rice High School through Oct. 25.

In addition, two community drop offs are planned from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 21, and Nov. 4 at the Evergreen Park’s Maher Community Center, 3450 W. 97th St. The drive is being co-chaired by Village Trustee Jeanine Olson.

Hines VA hospital serves veterans as far north as the Illinois/Wisconsin border, suburban Cook County, and Kane, DuPage, Will, Grundy, Kendall, Dekalb and occasionally Kankakee, Central and LaSale counties. Unfortunately, there is a high veteran homeless population in these areas. Veterans depend on Hines VA to provide them with many basic necessities.
