Evergreen Park Takes Precautionary Measures Against COVID-19

The Village of Evergreen Park cancels recreation programs, special events and senior activities to reduce spread of coronavirus.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL —The Village of Evergreen Park stands ready to follow the procedures as recommended by the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, as well as state and county guidelines to reduce the potential spread of coronavirus. There are no reported cases of COVID-19 in Evergreen Park.

These measures affect village departments and plans to continue to provide services to the community. Evergreen Park residents are encouraged to pay water bills online, or drop payments off in an envelope using the drop box in the parking lot of village hall, 9418 S. Kedzie.

“Naturally, there are items of business that need to take place in the village hall,” village communications director Glenn Pniewski. “We have taken every effort to make sure that our counters and shelves are constantly disinfected and that the staff is diligent about washing their hands and using hand sanitizer.”

Starting next week, residents will see protective plastic on the counters in village hall to help in reducing the amount of "breath" passed between the staff and residents.

The Evergreen Park Village Board of Trustees meeting, scheduled for Monday, March 16, has been canceled and will be rescheduled for Monday, April 6.

The Recreation Department has also canceled the following:

  • Preschool and all activities until further notice.
  • Easter Happenings Event on April 4.
  • Recreation Dept. Dance Program (looking to reschedule their Dance Show for later in the summer)
  • The Candlelight Theatre production of “The Sound of Music” will be rescheduled for the fall.
  • The Youth Department Game Room is closed until further notice.

The Office of Citizens Services has canceled "Shamrocks and Shenanigans" party on Tuesday, March 17; and the Thursday, March 19 Senior Luncheon
.
Tax Assistance Services are canceled for next week and no new appointments are being made.
As of now, no decision has been made about "Memories To Go,” "Day In The Park" or the Village Independence Day Parade.

As a precautionary measure, the Evergreen Park Public Library, 9400 S. Troy Ave., is proactively suspending programming for all ages through March 30, including use of the library's meeting rooms by outside groups.

During this time, the library is implementing CDC-cleaning procedures. The library will continue operating with normal business hours, and encourages patrons to regularly check the library’s website and Facebook page for updated information.
