Woman, 81, Dies Of Cold Exposure In Evergreen Park
Mary Savisky, 81, died in her home Monday afternoon of cold exposure, Cook County Medical Examiner said.
EVERGREEN PARK, IL — An elderly Evergreen Park woman died in her home of cold exposure, making her the eighth cold-weather death in Cook County during winter season.
Savisky was in her home in the 9600 block of South Francisco Avenue. An autopsy performed by the Cook County Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be cold exposure, with heart disease as a contributing cause. Her death was ruled accidental.
Temperatures were in the single digits on Monday, with a high around 7 degrees. Conditions are expected to get even colder, with dangerous wind chills of as low as -40 degrees possible Thursday night through Saturday morning.

Cook County is opening warming centers in the south suburbs to help residents combat extreme weather conditions. The warming centers will be open 24 hours beginning at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22 and will run continuously until 4:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26.
