Evergreen Park's Other Public Library
Community Center's "Relaxing Room" is a Cool Escape
There is no doubt of the beauty and quiet peace of the Fireplace Room at the Evergreen Park Public Library, which has been a landmark at 94th and Troy for many years. Renovation and rebuild over the last twenty years, along with a growth in programs and activities, has made the Library a treasure for Evergreen Park residents.
However, tucked away in the southern corner of the Maher Community Center, 3450 W. 97th Street, is another quiet hideaway.
The Community Center Library is maintained by the Office of Citizens’ Services, and is available to all Evergreen Park residents age 18 and over.

In that quaint, unassuming room is a growing selection of hardcover books that are loaned out on an “honesty” policy. A vast number of large print books are also available.
You will also find a public computer, half a dozen plush leather reclining chairs, a small game table with a selection of games and puzzles, and a large TV on the wall.

The room is also the home of the OCS Movie Program, where a feature film is presented four times a week. Your volunteer donation also gets you a small selection of snacks at movie time.
Upcoming films are:
“Cyrano” Mon 6/6 at 10am, 1pm; Tues 6/7 at 10:15am, 1pm
“Cry Macho” Mon 6/13 and Tues 6/14 (same times as above)
“SpiderMan” Mon 6/20 and Tues 6/21 (as above)
“Heart of Champions” Mon 6/27 and Tues 6/28 (as above)
There is also an outdoor garden patio for quiet reading or socializing.
“There really is something for everybody at the Community Center,” stated Beth Novotney, OCS Director. “The Recreation Department coordinates the preschool and day camps and so many programs and classes. The Youth Department provides a safe and exciting after-school game room for kids in grammar school and high school. And while our OCS mainly provides services to seniors, the Library is open to all. It is a nice place to get cool, read a book or a magazine, play cards or a board game with a friend.”
The Community Center Library is open from 9am-5pm every weekday, except for those instances where movies are shown, or an occasional special event is planned.
