Gimme 5: Mustang Enjoys Running Down, Refuting an Old Myth
Individual sport? Evergreen Park senior Charlotte Murphy finds teamwork the most enjoyable aspect of running for the Mustangs.
It’s easy to view track as an individual sport. But, many might take exception to that notion, including Evergreen Park senior Charlotte Murphy.
For Murphy, she enjoys the sport because of the moments when hard work pays off and when teamwork stands out.
“Just PR-ing (gaining a personal record) and working as a team to accomplish things,” Murphy said of what she enjoys about track.

Murphy, also a cross country runner, had a successful conference meet last Thursday, placing fifth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 13:18 and sixth in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6:20.
She also runs the anchor leg on the Mustangs' 4x800 and 4x400 relay teams.

Murphy plans on attending Elmhurst College next year to continue her running career. She will be a part of both the track and cross country teams.
“I visited and I really liked the team,” Murphy said. “Also, the campus is really pretty. I just decided it was right for me.”
