Grandparents/Grandkids "Back to School" Ice Cream Social
Evergreen Park Office of Citizens' Services serves up a scoop of family-centered activities.
Come August of every year, the three most-dreaded words are those that can strike horror into the heart of the most steadfast youths: “Back To School”.
However, if you pair that with another two words, “Ice Cream”, it could put a different spin on the whole thing. Then add Grandma and Grandpa into the mix? Now we’re talking!
To that end, the Evergreen Park Office of Citizens’ Services will host another “Grandparents and Grandkids” Ice Cream Social, taking place on Thursday, August 15 from 2pm to 4pm at the Community Center, 3450 W. 97th Street.

“The Ice Cream Social has become an annual event. We actually do them three times a year! They are so much fun for the kids and their grandparents,” said Beth Novotney, OCS Director. “It’s a nice little event to offer in that last free week before the dreaded “S” word goes back in session.”
Families are invited to have an ice cream snack, play a board game, or have a coloring book marathon. . .crayons provided.

The event is also intended as an Open House of sorts for all the departments in the Community Center, as the Recreation Department will have some information available on coming fall programs. The Youth Department will have materials on hand to introduce kids from Grades 5-12 to the Youth Center/Game Room.
“We only have two rules with this Ice Cream Social,” Ms. Novotney continued. “Kids must be accompanied by an adult. . .and, moreso, all adults must be accompanied by a kid!”
Reservations are encouraged, and more information on the event can be obtained by calling (708) 422-8776.
