Help Name The Evergreen Park Library's New 3-D Printer
Deadline to enter the Evergreen Park Library's "name the 3D printer" contest is Jan. 11. The new name and printer will be unveiled Jan. 14.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL — Have you always wanted to try out a 3D printer? Thanks to a generous donation to Evergreen Park Public Library by OSF Little Company of Mary and OSF Innovation, now you can. This fall, the library unboxed their new Prusa i3 MK3, and is excited to start offering orientations and lessons for the public soon.
3D printers are a manufacturing technology which build 3-dimensional objects by laying down successive layers of a plastic material.
“The practical applications for this printer are endless!” said Frank Murray, director of Evergreen Park Public Library. “We are excited to receive this sponsorship from OSF and look forward to offering our community classes to learn and get inspired.”

Now that the library has this new technology, staff need your help in giving the printer a name. Put on your creative thinking cap and head over to the library’s Name The 3D Printer Contest where you can submit names for consideration online.
“We have already received dozens of name suggestions, most notably Sir Prints-a-Lot and Printy McPrint Face,” says Jenna Harte-Wisniewski, head of adult services. “We can’t wait to see what else our community comes up with.”

The contest is open through Wednesday, Jan. 11, and the winning name will be announced on Saturday, Jan. 14 at Evergreen Park Public Library when the library and OSF Innovation will be throwing a 3D Printer Launch party. The public is invited to learn about all the cool stuff 3D printers can create, see the library’s new printer in action, and experience 3D printed heart molds provided by the OSF Innovation team on Sat., Jan. 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. The person who submits the winning name will receive a customized item made on the printer.
Orientations for the Library’s 3D printer will begin in the early spring. If you are interested in learning more about the Library’s 3D printer, or would like to be notified of upcoming orientations and classes, email Jenna Harte-Wisniewski at hartej@evergreenparklibrary.org. Visit the library at 9400 S Troy Ave. to see the printer and examples of 3D printed objects.
