I-55 Lane and Ramp Closures Saturday for Bridge Inspection

Weather permitting, I-55 bridge inspection near Cicero Avenue will take place Saturday morning into the afternoon.

The bridge carrying Interstate 55 over the Belt Railway Company of Chicago tracks near Cicero Avenue will be inspected, weather permitting, on Saturday, Sept. 20, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Temporary lane and partial ramp closures on northbound and southbound I-55 will be needed. Please note all times are approximate. Two lanes will be open to traffic at all times. The closures are as follows:

  • The left lane of northbound I-55 will be closed from 6 to 8 a.m.
  • The left lane of southbound I-55 will be closed from 8 to 10 a.m.
  • The ramp from Cicero Avenue to I-55 northbound will be partially blocked from 10 a.m. to noon. Although the ramp will be open, traffic will be slowed. Pulaski Road or Central Avenue are recommended alternate routes.
  • The ramp from I-55 southbound to Cicero Avenue will be partially blocked, from noon to 2 p.m.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
